March and Rally - Saturday, February 11th in Kent, OH
A March to Protest Fracking will be held on Feb. 11, 2012, in downtown Kent. Marchers will meet at the Kent Stage at 10:45, proceed toward the KSU campus along Main Street, and then turn west to the Gazebo on Franklin Street. There, two speakers will present, Dr. Ted Voneida of Neomed and Jaime Frederick of Coitsville, whose personal experience with fracking provides a moving account of living near a fracked well. Marchers will then return to the Kent Stage for free hot chocolate and doughnuts.
“Marchers from all over Ohio are expected,” said George Sosebee, one of the organizers and a member of Concerned Citizens Ohio. “In so many townships, villages, and cities in northeastern Ohio, people are rising up to take back their rights to clean air, clean water, and clean soil.” Kent residents who love this city plan to attend, as well as supporters from 350.org, the national group Food and Water Watch, members of the Kent Environmental Council, faith-based groups, and citizens from as far away as West Virginia are expected. Many local grassroots groups will also attend.
Marchers are expected to follow all traffic rules and coordinate with Kent City police and the march marshalls. Safety is of utmost concern to the march sponsors, Concerned Citizens Ohio and other local groups.
